Borley Rectory in Modern Photographs by Eddie Brazil & Paul Adams
The Rectory Grounds to the East

Modern Location 'K' - Facing South   As can be seen on Sidney Glanville's 1937 Site Plan and the modern plans produced for this article, the eastern part of the Rectory grounds tapered as they ran along the side of Hall Road and formed a copse of trees.  Ivan Banks in his book The Enigma of Borley Rectory (Foulsham, 1996) says that this part of the Rectory site was accessed by at least one gateway which lead into the wooded area.  There are no historic photographs of this part of the Rectory grounds other than that of the small summer house (below).  This gateway could possibly be one such entrance although whether this is the original gate is debateable.  It is at the far Eastern end of the former Rectory site directly off Hall Road.

Historic Location '8' - Orientation Uncertain  This small timber summer house in the copse at the Eastern end of the Rectory grounds was often used as a private retreat by the Rev. Harry Bull.  It was quite remote from the Rectory and here Harry apparently communed with the spirits.  The summer house was pulled down by soldiers using the Rectory grounds as a billet during the Second World War.  In the copse today is a rather ramshackle shed-like building which was apparently used in the past to keep pigeons in.

Modern Location 'L' - Facing West   This photograph shows the most Eastern tip of the former Rectory grounds as they are today.  The trees are what remains of the copse in which the small summer house was located.  Hall Road is on Eddie's immediate right
