Click on the photograph titles to locate the positions on both 1933 & 2005 site plans. Modern Location 'A' (Below) - Facing East and Historic Location '1' - Facing South -East This is the nearest that it is possible today to recreate the viewpoint of Sidney Glanville's June 1937 photograph of the Rectory and the Rectory Cottage from the tower of Borley Church. The former Rectory Cottage (actually older than the now vanished Rectory) is the only original building on the site which survives and even this has been heavily altered and modernised (particularly to the rear). The ground floor bay on the roadside elevation is a new addition from the days of the Price tenancy. (Period photograph taken from The Most Haunted House in England by Harry Price [Longman, Green & Co., Ltd, 1940])
Historic Location '2' - Facing South-South-East The photograph opposite was taken on the morning of the 28th January 1939 from a vantage point in the road opposite the now badly fire-damaged Rectory. The fire spread from the area around the main staircase through into the wing facing the road which housed the kitchen and servants quarters which can be seen in this picture. The tower over the main entrance can also be seen - the smoke-blackened window over the arched doorway is that of the chapel. (Photograph - Mary Evans Picture Library) Modern Location 'B' (Below) - Facing South-East Eddie Brazil's modern photograph shows more or less the same view today. The flint boundary wall is where the bicycles are leaning in the 1939 photograph
Modern Location 'C' - Facing East The Rectory Corner as it is today in another contemporary photograph by Eddie Brazil, looking eastward along Hall Road.
Modern Location 'D' - Facing West The Rectory Corner looking westward towards the Tithe Barn adjacent to the churchyard.
